Teacher’s Report – Mrs. Weber expressed gratitude to all parents who have helped within our school.  She is amazed at how much all parents do!  Thank you Mrs. Weber!!  Mrs. Cole stated the teachers are in the midst of planning the ‘Tin Can Raffle’.  We are in need of donations!!!!  Raffle is to be held on March 9th.  Discussion of ‘Reading Month’ also.  Theme this year will be ‘Reading Pays Off’.  Each child will donate 1cent per book read during the month of March, all money received will be donated to the library to purchase books.  There will be opening and closing events explaining the prizes.  Teachers would like to keep simple and keep emphasis on reading and giving.  Planning is still in the works.  $1500.00 was approved for reading month.  This money will be used for each child to receive a book and prizes throughout the month.

Principal’s Report – Mrs. Hickens expressed the 100th day of school is being celebrated today by some classes and Monday will be other classes celebrating because of the snow days.  Proud to announce that Anthony Abate was 1st in the Spelling Bee and David Bean was 2nd place.  February 17th is the Macomb County Spelling Bee.  Citizenship assembly has been rescheduled for Tuesday, February 13th.  Stressed that the walking logs still need to be returned to school so Greenwood can get the trophy back!  Thank you to Brooke Goodnough for keeping track of the minutes on the walking logs.  MEAP scores were sent out with report cards for our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders.  Greenwood students performed well, up significantly from last year.  Mrs. Hickens was informed that the writing portion of the MEAP will be sent back to the building so the teachers can review.  This has never happened before and they are excited to see.  There was an assembly as a Kick off for Black History Month on February 7th.  The children really enjoyed it.  Coming up events – February 14th is count day, be sure students report to school, February 19-23 is Winter Break, and return to school February 26th, March 28 will be Spring pictures.

Old Business

Tin Can Raffle: is in need of volunteers and donations.  To clarify for some parents this is a variation of a silent auction.  Tickets are 5/$1.00, you will be given a number, you will need to put that number on each ticket you buy, you walk around and put tickets only in items that are of interest to you, the more tickets you buy and put in the cans the better your chances of winning that prize.  Raffle will be on Friday March 9th.

New Business

1.  Popcorn Machine: some complaints on how long the popcorn takes to pop.  Because it is so late in the year, this issue has been tabled until absolutely necessary to replace.

2.  5th Grade Graduation:  Committee to be established.  Laurie Allen will send out flyers with a meeting date.

Sock Hop:  Expected to have over 150 guests.

3.  Meetings During The Day:  It has been suggested to have every other month during the day due to some parents that are unable to come to night meetings because of daycare.  Providing daycare for the evening meetings was then suggested to get more parents involved in the meetings.  Will discuss further in next meeting.

4.  March 12th 8:45am will be our next PTO meeting – this is our regular Monday morning meeting.  This meeting will be for our board nominations for 2007-2008.  Wednesday April 4th at 7:00 pm, will be a PTO meeting and PTO board elections will be held at that time.
