Meeting called to order at 7:09 p.m. by Laurel May.

 

Treasurers Report: Jodie Groves submitted her report with a balance of $14, 525.76.  Report Approved.

 

Secretary’s Report: Teri Lucas submitted her minutes from the September 19, 2007 meeting.  Minutes approved.

 

Principal’s Report: Mrs. Hickens reported that the MEAP testing is coming to an end and thank you to everyone that helped with snacks.  Classes are moving back to the north wing this week.  Transition is going well.  Thanks to all parents for their help with the reflection logs.  Halloween Parade is October 31st at 9:30 a.m.  Please send your kids in their costumes to school that morning.  Parents please remember to fill out your volunteer forms and submit to the office for clearance.  Harvest Dessert, October 26th from 6-8 p.m.  Family Game night will be November 9th from 6:30-8 p.m.  November 15th will be our Roller Skating Party with Princeton.  Our freezer quit working and the Groves family has donated a freezer to take its place.  Thank You.

 

Teachers Report: Katie Flaherty reported that all teachers will give back $30 of popcorn sales to the PTO to help cover expenses.  Classes will have one popcorn day this year and the PTO will have other Fridays.  Mrs. Bogdan has asked  PTO if they could paint a four square hopscotch on the play ground.  Mrs. McHugh will chair the 2nd grade social studies community project, “Pennies for Pies”.  This is sponsored with the Salvation Army in Warren, December 10, 11, & 12.  If the 2nd grades need help feel free to ask the Jr. Girl Scouts, contact Melissa Momper. All pies will be purchased through Market Day.  Motion passed 23 in favor, 0 opposed.

 

Popcorn Machine: David Lucas presented quotes on purchasing a new heavy duty machine.  Our current cooker is not working.  A new 12/14 oz. popper will cost $804.99.  David also committed to helping on popcorn Friday’s.  Motion passed 23 in favor, 0 opposed.    

 

Cash Management: Laurel May informed the entire PTO that there will be no monies given without an invoice or receipt.  This procedure was implemented from the administration office and is district wide.  Concerns were voiced that some events have too much dollar output for an individual to front.  We will invite Cindy Szuminski, to attend our meeting to discuss.  Mrs. Hickens informed us that this is the procedure that all school employees use and the PTO is an extension of the school.

 

At 8:01 p.m, the Facility Renovations Bond Program Renewal presentation was presented by Mr. Paulson and Mrs. Feeley-Myrand.  Presentation ended at 8:58 p.m.

 

Harvest Dessert: Lana Bakus is the chairperson for this event.  This will be on Friday, October 26th from 6-8 p.m.  Things are going great.  Feel free to call if you have any questions.

 

Sally Foster Fundraiser: Kelly Bean and Rehne’ Myers reported that we had a profit of less than $2200.00.  This is significantly lower than previous years.  Factors discussed included no kick off assembly presented because construction, local economics, and high price of Sally Foster items.  Final numbers have not been completed.

 

Campbell’s Box Tops and Labels: Sue Willard told us that the fall deadline for box tops is October 31st.  However, continue to send them in for spring collection.  We will receive a check (cash) from Campbell’s for the amount of tops we send in.  You can shop on line at our favorite stores and we will get a percentage of money for our school. Examples are: Target and Oriental Trading. Student Council will help cut labels and count.

 

Santa Shop: Nicki Cipponeri is the chair for this shop.  We will purchase items from Fun Services or the Dollar Store.  As chair, it is up to Nicki if she decides to drop Fun Services and purchase from another company/store.  $600.00 was approved for her to spend on supplies. $3000.00 is the limit if the Dollar Store is used.  Motion passed 23 in favor and 0 opposed.

 

Skating Party: Diane Hinze is the chairperson. Our first party will be November 15th at Great Skate. More in for as this event gets closer. 

 

5th Grade Graduation: Diane Hinze is chair for this event. The first planning meeting will be November 6th.  More into will follow.

 

Vendor Fair: Kelly Bean is chair.  This fair will take place the night of evening conferences, November 28th.  Fifteen vendors are signed up at $30 a table.  Dolly’s pizza and pop will be provided to the vendors, at a cost of $100.  This will be Kelly’s last time to chair this and the new chairperson can makes changes as they feel necessary.  Motion passed 21 in favor and 2 opposed. 

 

Teachers' Dinner: Laurel May and Julie Raymond are taking care of this dinner. This will be held that night of evening conferences.

 

PTO Freezer: Thanks to the Groves family for donating a new freezer for our PTO.

 

Dinner with Santa: Chair person needed for this dinner.  Marilyn Cerulli was the past chair and will be happy to help the new person.

 

Movie Night: Chairperson needed for movie night. Duties include renting a ‘G’ rated movie and set up.  Families bring sleeping bags to sit on and have a great night together.  We have available popcorn and snocones.

 

Burger King: Chairperson needed. Responsibilities are to talk to Burger King, set-up dates and send flyers home. Possibly find other dinner sources.

 

Restaurant Fund Raiser: Other possible options are Culvers and BD’s Grill, guest grillers. Rehne’ Myers will check into BD’s.

 

Birthday Books: Debbie Combs has volunteered to be the chair for this job.

 

PTO Vice President: Another Co-Vice President is needed.  We will be taking nominations to vote at our November PTO Meeting. Fran Mlynarek was voted in the for one of the co-vice president positions.  Congratulations Fran!

 

Sheepshank Sam: Mrs. Dzubak has asked if the PTO could help fund an assembly for the 4th graders in coordination with their Michigan History social studies curriculum. She will do all she can to help pay for the cost of this by having a bake sale and popcorn sales. The $300.00 expense was voted on as a loan to the fourth grade class. Motion passed 23 in favor and 0 opposed.

 

Field Trip Shirts: Pat Herman showed us t-shirts that the kids could wear on field trips with Greenwood’s name and phone number on their backs. The cost of these shirts would be $6.00 each shirt. The money would be raised by bottle and can drives. It was decided that 120 shirts should be purchased to be shared among classes. Suggestions are welcome in regards to the price of the shirts.
