Principal’s Report:  Thank you for voting the millage renewal.  Thank you Lana Backus and everyone who helped make the Harvest Dessert a success.  The students signed a Safe Student Pledge this week.  The younger classes had the experience of a Fire Truck, close up, to help promote fire safety.  The 5th grade is finished retaking the MEAP writing section.  Game Night went well and these games will be available at the vendor fair.  The 2nd graders visited the Detroit Historical Society and received compliments on how well behaved and what very smart questions they asked.  The end of the card marking is Friday, November 16, 2007.  Conferences are November 28 & 29.  The popcorn has lots of flavor and thank you to Susan Willard, Rehne’ Myers, Nanette Jackson and David Lucas.  The 4th grade raised $297.00 from their bake sale towards the assembly, Sheep Shank Sam.  Gobble Grams are being sold to help the 4th grade class to raise funds.  I wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving.

Teacher’s Report:  Katie Flaherty reported that Pennies for Pies is doing very well.  $160 plus change has been raised, we can purchase 20 pies before Thanksgiving.  Check out the pie man outside the main office door.  In celebration of Veteran’s Days the children brought in photos of veterans that they know.  Mrs. Clancy has asked if we can have the black top painted on the small play ground, same as the large playground black top will be painted.  A Candy Drive for left over Halloween candy is being collected, in our office, for the soldiers from Selfridge.  Student Council’s first meeting for the year is November 19, 2007.  These students will help with cutting the Campbell’s labels.

Harvest Dessert:  Lana Bakus raised $147.00 from our Harvest Dessert.  Everything worked out great!  Good job to everyone!

Entertainment Books:  Jane Powell reported that our school raised $1191.00 from selling these books.  We made a $9.00 profit for each book sold.  Last year the school raised $650.  Thank you, Jane Powell and Katherine Capaldi!

Field Trip Shirts:  Pat Herman reports that we will start our bottle drive next week and will continue until November 30th.  Teachers will be responsible for washing the shirts after their field trip.  Pat is planning on purchasing 70 shirts.

Skating Party:  Diane Hinze, chair person, stated that tickets will be available at the door at the roller rink.   There is a minimum of 125 people..

Box tops and Campbell’s labels:  Sue Willard, sent in our Box Tops for education for a total of $82.00.  We had a credit balance of $92.00.  We will receive a check from box tops for a total of $180.00.  You can shop on line through the box top web site and a percentage of your purchase will go into Greenwood’s account.  For your holiday shopping go to boxtops4education.com.

Ms. Flaherty added that the Student Council will help with cutting labels.

Santa Shop:  Nikki Cipponeri reported via Jodie Groves that the display case now has the items that will be for sale.  Items will be under $6.00 and they will be set out in order from lowest to highest.  Nikki has purchased very nice dollar store items.  The adult helpers will be sure to help the kids stay within their budget according to written instructions on their envelopes. Everyone must stick to envelope directions!  We will be tax free again this year.  Help is needed and will be appreciated for clean-up every night. Nikki works nights and needs to get home quickly.  Any items that are left over will be donated for our families that need help this holiday season.

Dinner with Santa:  Nanette Jackson, chairperson informed us that two flyers will be going home, one early and one for last minute sign ups.  There will be two seatings that night 5:00-6:30 and 6:30-8:00.  A survey was sent out for a choice of Chicken or Pizza and…Pizza won.  We can purchase a 24 piece party tray from Buscemis for $17.00.  Child and Adult meals are $3.00 & $4.00.  Raffle tickets will be available for some really great gifts.  Nanette is waiting to hear from various businesses in regards to donations.  The ‘guest of honor’ will be visiting us.  Music will be provided.  Fran Mlynarek will possibly do the photos with Santa.

5th Grade Graduation:  Diane Hinze is scheduling another meeting in January 2008.  More information will follow.

Vendor Fair:  Kelly Bean is chair.  This fair will take place the night of evening conferences, November 29th.   This will be Kelly’s last time to chair this and we need a new chairperson for future fairs.

Movie Night:  Rick Eckenwiller has volunteered to set up the electronic part of this evening.

We need people to help with other duties for this to be a success.  Popcorn and sno-cones will have a $.25 charge.  Can you be the chairperson?

Birthday Books:  Debbie Combs has purchased some new books from Browns Book Store and the store gave her a $.25 per book discount.  Also she has ordered from Scholastic Books.

Fund Raiser Committee:  Julie Raymond, Laurel May, Lori Smith and Kim Gollehur have been reviewing many options for future fund raisers.  One idea is a Jeopardy Style Game for $2600.00, if booked for March we can save $500.00.  Daytime games for the kids, evening games for the families.  Possibly we could combine with the entire district at Lakeview to save money.  They will meet again to go over more ideas.  Kroger’s, Village Market, Gordon’s and Meijer’s have fundraising programs for schools.

Burger King Night:  If you know of someone who would like to chair a food fund raiser, let us know.  Possibly Culver’s, Subway, Tubby,s.

Cash Management:  The accounting records have been reviewed from 2001 thru present to check for discrepancies.  If we were to get audited we need accurate records.  We must be consistent with all transactions.  We now have our new tax ID number for the Greenwood PTO.  This is a District wide policy, now in effect.  The person who counts the money is not the person who deposits it in the bank.  Sandra Feely Myrand is setting up a meeting district wide to discuss more on this.  Checks up to $50 can be written without a receipt/invoice submitted, but receipt/invoice must be given to the PTO treasurer as soon as possible, along with any unspent money.

BY-Laws:  Any questions about our By-Laws are available on the Greenwood web site.

New Safety Belts:  Mrs. Balmas asked if the PTO could purchase 10 safety belts at a cost of $3.40 each.  AAA will only give her 6 belts and 10 more need to be replaced.  Motion passed, 17 in favor, 0 opposed. Also fund’s were requested for safety pizza parties.  The first pizza party would be Wednesday, December 5th at lunch time.  $300 was approved for the entire school year.  Motion passed, 17 in favor, 0 opposed.

Tire Swing:  Our tire swing is broken due to excessive weight being placed on it.  It needs to be replaced.  No warranty since this is considered abuse.  The hardware is still good only the tire needs to be replaced.  Maybe this could be avoided if the swing is taken down for the summer months.  We’ll check into different options such as: repair or replace.

Spirit Wear:  Laurel May will be the chairperson.  We are going to use a new company this year, Signature.  We can have a Christmas delivery, if we have all orders in before November 26th.  The company will pack our order by teacher, which will help with easier distribution. There was a discussion of the creation of a mascot for our school. Possibly, we could have the kids design a new mascot.

PTO Vice President:  Lisa Akers was voted in as our second vice-president.  Congratulations Lisa!

Meeting closed at 8:45pm by President Laurel May.
