September 12, 2007 Update:
The interior tile and concrete floor has been demolished and removed.  Also, the mechanical, electrical, stage area and other components attached to walls have been removed.  The fire and temporary separation barrier is installed on the school interior side of the wall (doors are sealed and boarded).  The State of Michigan plan review was holding up submission for the permit.  Plan review was received and permits were applied for on Monday, September 10, 2007.  Roof support structure installation is expected to begin within the next two weeks with exterior wall demolition to follow.

August 23, 2007 Update:
Sealed bids were received, publicly opened, and read aloud in the Board Office Community Meeting Room on August 14, 2007 @ 1:00pm.  Contractor references and background checks were conducted immediately.  At a special Board of Education meeting on 8/21/2007, the bids for work on the Harmon gym were awarded.  Steve Rewers of Barton Malow construction management has initiated requests for insurance verification and provided contracts to various vendors who were awarded the bids.  Once these documents have been signed and received in the district, vendors can begin work.  Temporary storage units arrived on site 8/20/2007.  Temporary barrier fencing will be installed to separate the construction area from students and parent drop off areas along Harmon Street over the next few days.  Miss Dig will be identifying utility lines with demolition and other work that should begin within the next two weeks.

      August 3, 2007 Update:

  • Harmon’s asbestos abatement was completed the week of July 9-14th.  The construction team is in the process of getting quotes to relocate the kitchen operations to the adjacent classroom on the north side of the gym.  Administration has been working closely with Macomb County Health officials to ensure proper operation of our kitchen at minimal expense for the temporary arrangement.

  • Design and specifications documents for Harmon’s Gym and Greenwood’s north wing structural improvements went public July 19th.   Formal bidding is proceeding with the closure date and public opening to occur at the administration building Tuesday, August 14.   The Board of Education anticipates approval of contractors the week of August 20, with work on the gym to continue immediately thereafter.
