the new school year. We would first like to
update everyone on the Student Services
personnel. Ms. Charlene Vickers, JMS
counselor, is back from medical leave. Mr.
Mike McGahey, counselor, has retired and Mr.
Ben Morin will be taking his position. Ms.
JoAnne Denison is the regular education
social worker and Ms. Verdell Brunson is the
special education social worker. Ms. Denison
will also be supervising a social work
intern from Wayne State University, Ms. Amy
Dumas. Ms. Vickers and Ms. Denison are at
JMS Monday through Friday. Ms. Brunson is at
JMS on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Mr.
Morin will be at JMS one day per week. Ms.
Dumas will be at JMS on Mondays, Tuesdays,
and Fridays. Each student at JMS is assigned
to one of the counselors or social workers.
We look forward to meeting new
parents/students and seeing returning
parents/students. Please stop by and say
hello. If you need additional time please
contact us for an appointment. We can be
reached through telephone, e-mail, or
stopping by and scheduling an
appointment. Parents are the key to our
students educational, emotional, and
social, success. It is a honor and privilege
to work in collaboration with parents to
help each child reach their greatest
potential.

for your heart than reaching down and
helping to lift someone up."

We will be facilitating the Yellow Ribbon
suicide prevention program the week of
September 17, 2007. Students will be given
information about depression, suicide
prevention, resources and coping mechanisms.
We will have a speaker, Mr. Eric Hipple,
former Detroit Lions quarterback, on
September 20, 2007 presenting information to
students. Parents/guardians please talk with
your children about the information
presented. They should be coming home with
handouts.
Meap testing will be coming up in October
for our sixth, seventh, and eighth
graders. Please look for additional
information about this in future
publications.
