An EXPLORATION IN ART or BEGINNING DRAWING is a prerequisite for all art courses and may not be taken in conjunction with each other or with another course until its completion.

0010 EXPLORATIONS IN ART
(1 Unit of Credit)
This course is for freshman or any students who have NEVER taken art in high school.  This is an introduction to the basic elements of art design to expand each student’s visual/perceptual skills, creative capabilities, vocabulary, critical thinking and creativity. This class will cover basic drawing techniques, color, and 2-D and 3-D design.

Students will gain the ability to make informed choices for future art class selections. This is a one time only class and a prerequisite for all other art classes with the exception of beginning drawing. This class may not be taken at the same time as another art course

DRAWING   0030 (BEGINNING) 0031(INTER.) 0032(ADVANCED)

0030   BEGINNING DRAWING
This class is for students who have NEVER taken an art class in high school.  Beginning drawing teaches                basic drawing skills of perception and technical drawing skill of composition, foreshortening, sighting, use of                grids, and drawing in perspective.  The media will include pencil, ink, washes, and various chalks. This class    also covers techniques such as blending, shading, and crosshatching.  The study of art from various artists,              countries, eras, art criticism, and aesthetics will be included in their studio work.

0031   INTERMEDIATE DRAWING
Intermediate drawing continues perceptual drawing and extends work begun in Beginning Drawing.

Prerequisite:        Explorations in Art or Beginning Drawing

0032 ADVANCED DRAWING
Advanced drawing continues perceptual drawing and extends work begun in Intermediate Drawing.

Prerequisite:         Intermediate Drawing

 PAINTING 0050(BEGINNING) 0051(INTER.) 0052(ADVANCED) (1 Unit of Credit)

0050   BEGINNING PAINTING
This class will begin with a review of the elements of art, the principals of design, and the fundamentals of        art.  This class will investigate a variety of painting media: acrylics, tempera, gauche, and watercolors. They            will study the masters of art history.  The students will select some projects on their own with the teacher's            guidance and will proceed to new methods depending on individual needs.  .

0051   INTERMEDIATE PAINTING
Intermediate painting extends painting techniques learned in beginning painting and continues with added media such as oils and delves into added art history masters.   

Prerequisite:         Beginning Painting 0050
Grades Taught:    10, 11, and 12

0052   ADVANCED PAINTING
Advanced painting extends painting techniques and methods learned in intermediate painting.  Students will      be challenged by their individual needs.  Art history will serve as a guide; however, individuality will be emphasized stronger in this advanced class.

THREE DIMENSIONAL DESIGN 0060 (BEGINNING) 0061(INTER) 0052 (ADVANCED)
(1 Unit of Credit)

0060   BEGINNING THREE-DIMENSIONAL DESIGN
This class will explore functional and pure sculptural work through additive, reductive, and kinetic     techniques.  Students may use many media including clay, plaster, wire, found objects, etc.

Prerequisite:         Explorations in Art 0010 or Drawing 0030
Grades Taught:    10, 11, and 12

0061 INTERMEDIATE THREE-DIMENSIONAL DESIGN
This class will continue with functional and sculptural work with the addition of the pottery wheel, extruder,       and roller to create larger and more creative works in clay.        

Prerequisite:        Beginning Three-Dimensional Design 0060
Grades Taught:   10, 11, and 12

0062 ADVANCED THREE DIMENSIONAL DESIGNS
This class will extend their use of materials to their individual needs.  Welding, adding media together and                               experimenting with new materials is encouraged.

Prerequisite:       Intermediate Three-Dimensional Design 0061
Grades Taught:    11, and 12

PHOTOGRAPHY 0090 (BEGINNING) 0091(INTER) 0092(ADVANCED) (1 Unit of Credit)

0090   BEGINNING PHOTOGRAPHY
This is an entry level course designed to learn the proper handling of a 35mm and Digital camera.  Students will learn how to develop film, print negatives, enlarge prints and use Photoshop.  They will explore the elements of art, principles of design and composition while exploring the genres of landscapes, architecture, still life, portrait, documentaries, journalism, etc.  The course covers the use of a 35mm and digital camera.  A 35mm or digital camera is recommended for this course.

0091 INTERMEDIATE PHOTOGRAPHY
Intermediate Photography is an extension of the photography techniques learned in beginning photography.  Students may learn alternative “experimental” printing methods, like Cyanotype, Vandyke brown, toning, and the Digital Darkroom.  A 35mm camera or digital camera is recommended for this course.

 0092   ADVANCED PHOTOGRAPHY
Advanced photography is an extension of the photography techniques learned in intermediate photography.      The advanced student will embrace those methods and techniques of photography that are necessary to                 realize their personal artistic vision.  Advanced students will build a portfolio representative of their best            work. A 35mm camera or digital camera is recommended for this course.

0070   GRAPHIC DESIGN/COMMERCIAL ART
(1 Unit of Credit)
This course stresses design and drawing projects in creation of advertising, graphics, and commercial art. Students'   projects will include letterheads, logos, packaging, CD covers, book jackets, posters, greeting cards, cartooning storyboards, typography, and web design, through new technology and computer programs.

Prerequisite:         Explorations in Art 0010 or Drawing 0030

 0003   AP STUDIO ART
(1 Unit of Credit)
This course is for serious art students who aspire to continue some aspect of art after graduation or who are    talented in most areas and media of art. Students will have to show portfolios of their artwork to be judged       by a panel of judges. They must also meet the designated criteria set by the Advanced Placement committee.
The students' goals will be to create art work specific to designated problems.  A combination of learned and new techniques in art will be explored.

Prerequisite:       Permission of Instructor and the completion of a portfolio for Scholastic competition in the first semester.
