1000 BUSINESS AND PERSONAL FINANCE
(1 Unit of Credit)
This course offers the student a variety of
business experiences designed to help them
become personally accountable for their own
finances. Topics studied include career
exploration, budgeting, checkbook
reconciliation, credit, car purchase, home
purchase, investing, and the stock market.
Students will take part in several business
simulations over the course of the semester.
Basic math proficiency is strongly recommended.

1100 COMPUTER APPLICATIONS I
(1 Unit of Credit)
Students will acquire skills in the area of
computer software applications using the
Microsoft Office XP suite including Word, Excel,
Access, and PowerPoint. An introduction to
proper Internet research techniques and
presentation skills will be taught as well.
Furthermore, the knowledge needed for the
efficient operation of the keyboard using the
touch method will be developed.

1105 COMPUTER APPLICATIONS II
(1 Unit of Credit)
Students in this course will further enhance and
develop their skills with computer
applications. In addition to continued and
advanced exposure to the Microsoft Office XP
suite, students will develop skills in
employment, problem solving, presentations,
digital imaging, organization and
communication. This course is designed to
prepare students for employment in today’s
business environment. Furthermore, by the end
of the course students will be prepared to take
the Microsoft Office User Specialist (MOUS)
exams in any of the four primary applications
(Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Access).

1110 OFFICE PRACTICE
(1 Unit of Credit)
Students will be prepared for support staff
employment in the modern electronic business
office. The course includes word and data
processing, records management, manual and
electronic filing, communication and telephone
skills, and personal and career development.

1175 WEBSITE DEVELOPMENT
(1 Unit of Credit)
Students will
learn how to design a web page using both HTML
code and a WYSIWYG editor, such as Microsoft
FrontPage. Besides the introductory topics of
changing text appearance and layout, advanced
topics such as table, frames, forms, graphics,
and animation will also be covered. Students
will also use software to edit images and adjust
canned images. Creation of logs, icons,
navigation controls and background textures will
be introduced. Students will also use software

Students enrolling in this course need a working
knowledge of the Windows operating system and
the personal computer. This course is not
intended to be a first course in computing.

1140 ACCOUNTING I
(1 Unit of Credit)
Students will learn the complete accounting
cycle. This beginning course will teach
accounting procedures for the sole
proprietorship and partnerships. Manual and
automated competency will be exhibited in
journalizing and posting transactions;
reconciling a bank statement; completing a work
sheet; creating a trial balance, balance sheet,
and income statement; adjusting and closing
entries; and implementing petty cash and payroll
procedures.

1150 ACCOUNTING II

Students will expand their knowledge of manual
and automated accounting procedures with
emphasis on partnership and corporation
accounting practices. Decision-making skills in
budgeting, departmental accounting systems,
payroll procedures, and simulated accounting
experiences will be emphasized.

1160 ACCOUNTING III

In this advanced accounting course students will
expand their knowledge of automated accounting
procedures for the proprietorship, partnership,
corporation, and basic inventory systems. Use
of automated accounting software will be
emphasized.

1170 MARKETING PRINCIPALS
(1 Unit of Credit)
The main goal of
this course is to introduce students to the many
facets of marketing: general marketing, our
free enterprise system, and service and
product-oriented marketing. Marketing is the
tool that has allowed the United States economy
to be one of the most successful in the world.
Students will learn the basics of marketing,
following a product from development through
market research, pricing, distribution, and
selling. Marketing introduces students to this
universal process which includes an emphasis on
promotion and advertising. Relationships
between consumers, business, and government are
explored.

1165 11XX BUSINESS (Externship)
(1 Unit of Credit)
Students will have
an opportunity to earn money while earning high
school credit by working 15 hours per week in
the local business community. Students are
dismissed from school one hour early to work in
a school-supervised environment, compatible with
the student’s career goals. This class must be
taken concurrently with a Career & Technical
Education business class.
