Course Offerings: Music
5000 BAND: WOODWINDS, BRASS, & PERCUSSION (1 Unit of Credit)
The first semester band class begins with an option of two classes: marching band or concert band.
Those who elect marching band or color guard will be required to attend (but are not limited to) the following performances: all home football games, five (5) to eight (8) marching competitions, and a homecoming parade.
The concert band class is open to those who do not participate in the marching band class during the first part of the semester. Students enrolled in this option will work on basic marching/show music and fundamental skills during the first part of the semester, and will be tested as often as possible.
Following the close of the marching band season, all members will form a concert band. Required performances include (but are not limited to) winter concert.
Orchestra winds and percussion will be chosen by audition from those enrolled in this class. Orchestra performance requirements are listed under "Symphony Orchestra Strings."
The second semester band class is involved in the following required (but not limited to) performances: pre-festival concert, district band festival, spring concert, Memorial Day Parade, and graduation ceremonies.
Students are strongly encouraged to participate in the solo and ensemble festival.
Because of the extensive amount of practice and performance by members of the group, the vast majority of the grade will be based on attendance at rehearsals and performances.

5010 SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA STRINGS (1 Unit of Credit)
The high school symphony orchestra is the culmination of eight years of work in the string instrument program.
Required performances of this class include (but are not limited to) fall tour, Cabaret, Christmas Concert, winter concert, orchestra festival, pre-festival concert, state orchestra festival (when group qualifies), Spring String Thing, spring concert, and community musical.
Students are strongly encouraged to participate in the solo and ensemble festival.
Because of the extensive amount of practice and performance by the members of this group, the vast majority of the grade is computed on attendance at performances and practices.

5005 JAZZ BAND (1 Unit of Credit)
This course is open to students that are interested in not only learning how to play jazz, but also in learning the history and theory of jazz music. Ensemble members must play one of the following instruments: clarinet, saxophone(s), trumpet, trombone, piano, drum set, or bass. If not already a member of Concert band or Orchestra, student will have to receive director’s permission to be in performing ensemble. Course of study will include improvisation and performances of original jazz charts, plus mastery of the various jazz techniques.
Prerequisite: Permission and/or audition with the Director.

5030 CONCERT CHOIR (1 Unit of Credit)
Choir is a performance class which studies and presents a variety of choral music. Styles range from a cappella literature to choreographed pop. Opportunities are presented for small group and solo performances. High development of voice, musicianship, and citizenship are expected of it’s members. Students are required to be present at all rehearsals and performances.

5035 LAKEVIEW SELECT CHOIR (1 Unit of Credit)
The Lakeview High School Select Choir is a continuation of the Lakeview Concert Choir.
The Select Choir is open to all current Lakeview students who meet any of the following criteria: Approval of the director, audition, ability to read music, and membership in the Concert Choir for at least one year.
The Select Choir is intended as a "performance group." The Choir will perform for Lakeview functions, assembly performances at the elementary schools and middle school, performances at MSVMA festivals, and performances at Lakeview High School and in the community.
All members of the Select Choir are encouraged to participate in MSVMA solo and ensemble festivals, as well as the Lakeview Community Musical.
