Course Offerings: Science
6000 PHYSICAL SCIENCE (1 Unit of Credit)
This is a survey course dealing with the general topics of chemistry and physics. It is designed to give each student a lab-oriented introduction to the major topics in the physical sciences.
Prerequisite: NONE
Grades Taught: 9 (Required)
6010 BIOLOGICAL SCIENCE (1 Unit of Credit)
The subject matter is basic. The course of study includes microscopic organisms, plant and animal systems, genetics, and ecology. Animals of various phyla are dissected. Emphasis is placed primarily on factual information rather than concepts.
Prerequisite: PHYSICAL SCIENCE
Grades Taught: 10
6020 MOLECULAR BIOLOGY (1 Unit of Credit)
This course is designed for individuals who are planning to attend college and/or have a strong interest in biological science. This course is more rigorous than Biological Science. Major emphasis covers: cell anatomy and physiology, molecular genetics, genetics, chemical and biological evolution, classification, human body systems and ecology.
Prerequisite: PHYSICAL SCIENCE
Grades Taught: 10
6030 CHEMISTRY (1 Unit of Credit)
This is a comprehensive laboratory-oriented program. Issues in chemical technology, society, and careers are stressed. Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Biochemistry are introduced. This course provides an excellent background for college chemistry courses.
Prerequisite: ALGEBRA
Grades Taught: 11, 12

6040 ANATOMY/PHYSIOLOGY (1 Unit of Credit)
A detailed study of human anatomical structure using dissection of a fetal pig as the focal point of the course. This is an exploratory course with emphasis in laboratory work and in lecture. This is highly recommended for those who wish to pursue a related field in medicine or biology. Students should enjoy dissection, as this comprises a major portion of the course. Memorization skills are important. Physiology is a detailed study of the functions of the human body. Body systems, organs, and tissues will be studied. This material will be presented in lecture and demonstration, and will involve individual and group work.
Prerequisite: MOLECULAR BIOLOGY or BIOLOGICAL SCIENCE
Grades Taught: 11, 12
6060 EARTH SCIENCE (1 Unit of Credit)
This course involves the study of astronomy, geology, meteorology, and oceanography. A general course covers most factors of the physical planet earth and the relationship of earth to the universe.
Prerequisite: NONE
Grades Taught: 10, 11, 12
6070 PHYSICS (1 Unit of Credit)
Physics is the study of matter and energy. It involves the application of mathematics and laboratory exercises to solve problems related to the topics of motion, energy, waves, sound, light, the atom, and fundamental particles.
Prerequisite: ADVANCED ALGEBRA & TRIG (May be concurrent)
Grades Taught: 11, 12
6080 HONORS ADVANCED BIOLOGY (1 Unit of Credit)
This is a course designed as an intensive college or university-level biology course for the student with high science aptitude and motivation. This course includes the detailed study of cells, biochemistry of the substances of life (proteins, lipids, carbohydrates, nucleic acids, DNA, RNA, and enzymes), chemical foundation of cellular activity, genetics, evolution, and biological time.
Prerequisite: 3.00 G.P.A., MOLE. BIOLOGY or BIOLOG. SCIENCE and CHEMISTRY
Grades Taught: 11, 12
